One other thing I have notice while playing the machine is that the GI lights flicker when I press the flipper buttons. Not a lot, but just a bit of flicker. Could this related to the same issue as above or is there something else I need to look at?
A little flicker when flipping is really common with this series of games, The transformer is taxed when a large current is present in the windings supplying the solenoids, and there will be a significant voltage drop, leaving less voltage available to your GI. I'm back. Hopefully, some of you will help me locate another problem. But first, It turned out to be a blown fuse. I had to pull the fuse to see the blow out. I replaced the fuse and got all my play field lights back.
I also pulled the molex connectors from the rectifier board, pulled all the pins and cleaned them up and replaced terminal housings. Two of the housings were burnt and one pin was really crappy. So, replacing the fuse and doing a battle field repair job to the rectifier board pins and replacing the housings got me all my lights back and the flickering GI lights quit flickering.
I do need to repin but this will get me by for a bit. Now, the next problem that has developed: I was playing along and having a good time. Everything was working when I shut the machine off. Two days later, I go to turn on the machine and all I get are the GI lights and the back box lights.
Nothing else works. I don't get a flashing green light from the MPU board, and the credit button does not work. I have a lit up dead machine. No warning at all. Turn off a working machine and return to a dead one. The newbie asks, Is this the lot of a pinballer? What is the likely cause? Did my MPU board just decide to go bad when I shut down or has something happened to the rectifier board? Does the MPU board get its power from the rectifier board? I have not been to pinrepair. Will I be able to find the troubleshooting info for this problem at pin repair?
Factoid: Do you know that if you want to repin every pin in your Bally Playboy back box that the amount of pins to replace totals ? Tayda electronics has. They come on a strip though so you have to cut them loose. Teaching myself how to check voltages, based on the figures wayout gave, my voltages are off.
I have the AS board. I have 6. Questions: Should I rebuild an antique power supply or buy one of the new replacements that are available? Advantage: Low cost. Disadvantage: Factor my time to do all the solder work and it is worth it to look for a replacement board.
This is the most difficult circuit board I have ever had the "pleasure" to replace. The procedure involves desoldering from the old board and then resoldering the wires onto the new board! You need to take extreme care to track which-wire-goes-where.
Well, I can solder, but I can also screw up a soldering job. Count screwing up as a risk factor. They sound nice. No soldering. And some nice big. Any advise appreciated. Buy replacement? As you can tell, I'm leaning toward replacement.
I'm starting to feel like I stepped into a money pit that is turning into a Florida sinkhole. My girlfriend is not a pinball fan and does not yet know I bought this machine. That makes it a ticking time bomb. Since everything is low, are the jumpers on the transformer set right?
What is the incoming voltage at the plug? I can see what I think might be jumpers located behind a protective grill around the transformer. Is this of what you are speaking? Looking at the Playboy owners manual, on page one it shows transformer with a red wire on lug 1 and jumped to lug 3.
And a yellow wire on lug 9 with a jumper to lug This is for volts. My transformer is wired this way. We always look at the transformer first, because games that are reimported into the USA are often incorrectly set. No, Album) fuse clips are not black. But here is a pic of Album) molex connectors I replaced. They are fried. Just looking at the rectifier board it does not look bad; The male pins on the board look OK, but one of the female pins was corroded real bad.
Cleaning up that corroded pin is what got me my table lights back. Also, this corroded pin was right at the break point in the broken connector. I'm downloading Clay's guide now. Thank you for the link. I'll study on that for awhile and get back in a few days. Figured out why my machine went dead. One of the pins I had previously cleaned on the J3 connector on the rectifier board must have hit its heat limit. I started pulling pins and this pin had folded up flat like an envelope when it cooled off.
I got my new pins ordered from Tayda. I'm gonna repin all of it, including the score displays as I have a couple of those acting up. Once I get it repined, I'm going work up my plans for restoring it and I will have a few questions about that. What I am wondering is if I should continue with restoration type questions in this post, or should I start a new post?
Sounds like your having a fun time, making progress and learning as you go with the usual outstanding help from the experts here! Following this as I am working on mine, but starting with the Play field paint and clear coat, then let that sit and cure real well while I redo my connectors etc etc. We will keep in touch, Can you let me know which Kit you purchased for the replacement connectors, was going to order from Marco cause I can get most of what I need in one place Seems like pretty std fair and I would bet its all more or less identical material.
But, if you had issues, I will avoid. I did not buy a kit. I had a couple of spare connector blocks to use. I went with the connectors that Barakandi recommended from:. They are just 3 cents each and I ordered if your are going to repin everything in your PBit will take pins. They come on a machine gun roll but I was able to cut all off of the rolls in about 30 minutes.
I'd be willing to bet that your molex connector blocks are OK and all you will need are the pins. For a crimper, I bought the Sargent CT. This model will take care of all your different wiring sizes and give you that nice factory looking crimp. Google "Sargent CT"; Lots of places to buy it. I think I will probably do exactly this Great to see you're enjoying Pinside!

Given issues of homophobia in the country, M. You know what I mean? So we were kind of subverting things and making them say something or accept something that they wouldn't otherwise. So I felt like I'd achieved something with that.
They don't know that. I was telling my friend, "No one else could get Jamaican boys to be dancing and saying 'How many boys there?
