Really happy to have this back in print again after all these years I was a bit disappointed in this when in originally came out because it didn't strictly adhere to the Rockpile blueprint that his previous two albums did However, listening to this today without these expectations this album sounds like a classic.

The mix of rockers, ballads and pop makes this a fairly unique entry in Nick's catalog which generally have followed a single theme. As a result this is often cited as a fan favorite and was listed as the "Amazon Favorite" when I wrote this review, I personally don't hold it in quite as high regard since this does have a few clunkers Regarding the quality of this reissue, the sound and artwork are excellent and the bonus tracks are interesting as well. Unfortunately there aren't any liner notes of any kind Nick Lowe's "Nick the Knife" is one of the best, all-time rock albums.

The combination of the artist's stunning wit, unshakable grooves, and breadth of musical styles are simply unmatched. Every track here is first-rate, but most particularly the middle tracks: Couldn't love you romantic hyperole gone wildLet Me Kiss Ya catchy, offbeat rockerToo Many Teardrops, Ba Doom Got a smile like a searchlight This album, combined with his first solo LP, "Jesus of Cool", also known as "Pure Pop for Now People" established Nick Lowe as a powerhouse of pop, and set him out on a journey of great music for over 25 years now.

Plenty of Rockpile style rockin! A truly great album from Nick. The remaster is great and really brings out instrumentation in the songs that may have been overlooked in earlier versions of the album. Nick at his most playful, poppy and quirky. This album is all good fun and it's a shame that it isn't more readily available on CD, Album).

One person found this helpful. Without a doubt, this is the album where Nick Lowe's talents came together -- his humor, sense of melody and singing make this one of the best albums from the British group that included Rockpile and Elvis Costello. LP be humming these songs Album) months. Basher on top of his game! The new master tries for a slightly more normal mix, with drums fixed in narrower left-right soundstage, bass made tighter and more detailed but less impactfulvocals slightly more recessed, and the whole spatial experience made a little more contained and polite.

If the best thing you can say about a remaster is that those background vocals sure sound good, then you may have a problem.

Interestingly, I also feel as if some of the original lead vocal tapes may have been pitch-corrected, making some vocals sound significantly different from the earlier releases. 1. There was concern in some quarters that when Egyptian keyboard king Islam Chipsy's debut studio album came out, it might have lost some of the power contained in early live shows or the Live At The Cairo High Cinema Institute LP or the YouTube clips, with the forensic nature of a modern studio smoothing off all the rough edges. These fears have been assuaged by this all-out, high definition.
